Come join us on Thursday for a night of fun with the SHPE familia and friends. We'll be at Union South on the lower level spending some quality time.

We hope your semester has been off to a great start.
To make it even better, we'd like to invite you to the first SHPE meeting of the Spring Semester this Wednesday, February 4th in ME 1153. The meeting will take place from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and of course, there will be food!
Come learn about SHPE, what we do, ways to get involved, upcoming events and get to meet old and new members!
We hope to see you there!
This is just a reminder that TONIGHT at 6PM there will be our general Study Tables open at Engineering Hall 3609! Make those finals count!!
ALSO: WANT TO DESTRESS BEFORE FINALS WEEK??? Come to Engineering Hall lobby on Saturday, December 13th from 1:30-3PM to pet some puppies from Dogs on Call! They're always a blast.
... I also found some tips online to help distress before/during finals week. Some of these I made up myself, and I can honestly say I've tried some/all of them and they really do help!!
1. Make a study schedule!
Take the amount of hours/days you have to study. Break up that time appropriately between all your subjects (if one subject needs more time, then give it more and give another less), and write down exactly what you plan to accomplish during that time. For example, don’t just write down, “Study Anatomy.” It needs to be more specific. Instead, write something like, “Look up definitions of all the words on the study-guide for Anatomy.”
While making your schedule, you need to leave time for breaks! This is a MUST!!!!! Identify the time you work best at.
2. Take a nap.
15-30 minutes can help so much. Losing sleep can affect your overall performance and focus while studying, so take a snoozer.
3. Eat healthy (no junk food late at night!)
Yogurt, nuts, fruit, vegetables are great study snacks and easy to pack.
4. Take a bubble bath/shower.
Research studies show that the smell of lavender decreases stress.
5. Schedule some time to go out of your study area (take a walk, breathe a little and leave the library)
6. STAY HYDRATED.
I cannot emphasize this enough. Try to drink especially water.
7. Punch a pillow/have a stress ball.
I have a stress ball which actually helps me a lot, believe it or not.
8. Implement some type of exercise.
Yes I know we're engineers and ain't nobody got time for that, but exercise helps release endorphins.Endorphins are the body’s natural opiates, designed to relieve stress and enhance pleasure. Even a little walk or some quick jumping jacks can help you bring more focus when you get back to studying.
9.Eat dark chocolate!
According to a Nov. 13, 2009, webmd.com article by Jennifer Warner, this delicious treat can help reduce stress hormones, making you feel less anxious.
10. Take a social media break!
15 minutes max on Facebook, Twitter, or any other social media website won't affect you too much, and sometimes you need a break for your brain.
That's it for now familia, good luck studying!
Come join us for Pre-College Initiative (PCI) to talk to high school kids about Mechancial Engineering and EMA! If you are in either department, you should definitely come to talk about your major. Your words/advice can go a long way and can influence a student to become an engineer. Talk to Daniel Gomez or Bryant Robles (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Join the SHPE in welcoming BP!
BP will come in to talk to us about their company. Come and ask lots of questions to get the best out of this company presentation!
Of course, there will be FREE food!

Hey SHPE Members,
We are working to fill in our site with all of the necessary elements and information to make it both a functional and more comprehensive site.
An email will be coming out soon to our E-Board with tasks on website production so we can make all the improvements in time for NILA and Mexican Fiesta.
Hasta pronto familia,

This is the first post on this web-site in development. The vision for this website is to provide a space for information, interaction and engagement of UW Madison students and our SHPE chapter. We hope to incorporate many useful elements into this site and use it as an effective means of communicating with our members as well as other SHPE chapters around the country.
