Screening of Cesar Chavez, October 4th: 2PM (doors open at 1:30PM)
Location: Marquee, Union South
A Mexican American, Chavez became the best known Latino American civil rights activist. Directed by Diego Luna, this film documents his efforts beginning in the 1960s to organize 50,000 farm workers in California, many of whom were braceros—temporary workers from Mexico permitted to live and work in the United States in agriculture, and required to return to Mexico if they stopped working.
Come watch the screening of this powerful film and later have a discussion about Cesar Chavez’s impact upon the Hispanic American population, as well as issues that he encountered such as racism, the struggle for higher wages for laborers, and opposition from large industrial farms.
